Proton Therapy is a type of precision radiation treatment that uses heavy particles - protons - to irradiate tumour cells.

The proton beams are able to release the doses with extreme precision, saving the surrounding healthy tissue. The therapy requires particle production equipment - the cyclotron - and a beam transport and release system. During therapy, the patient is positioned on the treatment bed inside the gantry, the structure that directs the radiation by rotating 360° around the patient. The Trento Centre is equipped with two treatment rooms for patients and one for experimental use and research, with a fixed beam. The Centre is one of the operating units in the Hospital of Trento and is part of the Department of Oncology. It began its clinical activity in October 2014.

THANKS TO THE LENE THUN FOUNDATION FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO CHILDREN
Monday, 23 December 2019

Merry Christmas greeting and gifts to the children and mothers who will spend the festivities away from home: an act of love by the volunteers of the Lene Thun Foundation, for sick children and their families. Today Peter Thun, president of the Lene Thun Foundation, accompanied by Paolo Bordon, General Director at Apss, and Maurizio Amichetti, MD, director of the Proton Therapy Centre, met the young patients undergoing treatment and their families to present them with gifts. A beautiful initiative by the South Tyrolean foundation, which became true with the help of the employees of the company known for its ceramic creations, in order to be closer to those who will celebrate Christmas away from home.

Music at Proton Therapy Center
Tuesday, 17 December 2019

A special afternoon yesterday at the Proton Therapy Center in Trento, where musicians from the Conservatorio Bonporti performed a concert for patients, volunteers and staff. The performance was an opportunity to thank a person who recently donated a piano to the Center. From now on, a concert will be hosted monthly as part of the agreement between Conservatorio Bonporti and the broader project of APSS Trento to improve the quality of time spent by patients at the hospital.
